| Christian practice Often going through the motions Most people do not think about why they go to church and would be hard pressed to give a reason for why they believe whatever it is they believe. Most go through life on inertia and momentum. Most people want to be comfortable and avoid any discord. If asked why they believe something, they may get mad more for being made uncomfortable than in defense of a particular doctrine.  Most people think going to church is Christianity. Francis Chan once in asking a former gang member why he was quitting his church was told that he thought Christianity was like joining a gang, He said he didn’t know that Christianity was just something you did on Sunday mornings. It was enlightening to hear a gang member whose former experience was perhaps similar to that of a combat veteran in that the closeness he felt to the members of his former gang was absent in his Christian church experience. This is key to a great deficiency in modern Christian practice, that of relationships. It is perhaps a good point to consider this topic. |
