   Science An Alternative and Variable “Truth” What came to be called “science” started as people who had the time and money began to investigate the natural world. Those who recorded their observations came to be called scientists. At the time of Ben Franklin a lot of ground work had already been laid such that those who spent time making such investigations were becoming more accepted as a group whose collective writings were considered as truth mostly because they described the world God created. Concurrent with this was the divorce from God of such observations such that the order of the universe was almost seen as a result of man’s control. Much like the person taking a picture of a house being built claiming credit for its construction. The collection of these observations came into the almost total control of the newly established colleges where added to them would be new “sciences” such as evolution, psychology, political science, and social science. By the time of Margaret Sanger and Adolph Hitler the extermination of lesser races seemed obvious. However, once bad press was given to these ideas, “science” took a new turn and embraced diversity. Media and advertisers came to make use of the term “science” to infer the highest level of truth and authority. Public school children were exposed to “scientific” lessons that seemed abstract and unrelatable which further caused them to see science as the realm of cloistered experts whose pronouncements should be taken as gospel.  Mathematics was used to cloak science from intruders with exaggerated complexity further adding to the mystique. In reality, science is more the cart after the horse. When a technological breakthrough is made, science will come along afterwards to describe, measure, and classify it. This became the perfect place for all sorts of declarations that could be made with little fear of contradiction. An additional problem for science is that those that work in the field do not separate fact from conjecture. Someone will invent a model of something and someone else will contribute and build on it. After a while others learn the thesis and assume it is established fact. The colleges from which such pronouncements would come were not too terribly concerned when proven wrong. They simply adapted. While declaring “truth”, they held a more variable view of truth than most. For example, the claim that humans evolved over millions of years was modified once it was discovered that Mitochondrial DNA was inherited matraliniarly. Suddenly a common ancestor was identified 40,000 years ago in Africa. Similarly, the predicted ice age of the 1960s and 1970s was changed to global warming in the 1980s and 1990s. It was declared that eating peanut products before age three caused peanut allergies. Now it has been discovered that not eating peanuts before age three contributes to peanut allergies. While a complicit media tends to herald “scientific” pronouncements, they often also tend to diminish revelations of error.  It was sad that women’s studies, black studies, and gender studies all came to be placed under the umbrella of social “science”. That young people go into huge debt to learn this “science” is shameful. The “science” that men can become women and women can become men is a testimony to the damage these “scientists” can cause. That truth is important can be seen in that half of those that believed this lie will attempt to kill themselves. |
